Executive Producer and Emmy-nominated Writer/Director working in content strategy and production for digital platforms, brands, broadcasters and cultural organizations.
I started my career in live news at CNN before transitioning to long format documentaries on staff at National Geographic Society. While there, I worked on the development and production of television projects for the long-running EXPLORER series, and on dozens of shows and episodic series as an Associate Producer and Producer, for the newly-launched domestic US National Geographic Channel. Later, as a freelance Writer/Producer/Director still based out of Washington DC, I also worked with Discovery and the History Channel, and produced commercials with EuroRSCGWorldwide for Disney and Volvo. During this period my work was recognized with two CINE Golden Eagle Awards, was a Finalist at the Banff Mountain Film Festival, and screened at the United Nations in a joint program with the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International.
After international assignments in more than twenty-five countries, I went back to National Geographic as a staff Senior Producer at the newly-created Digital Studio. In this role, I helped build new, branded digital video networks and streamlined content production systems for National Geographic’s websites, television channels, museum and exhibition media projects. I led teams building video partnerships with YouTube, Hulu, MSN Video and more, while managing editorial strategy, content promotions, analytics, while supervising a team of coordinators, producers and editors. The Digital Studio worked with divisions across National Geographic and also produced branded content with partners including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Google Oceans, Volvo, Vodafone, and Microsoft. During this period my work was nominated for a News and Documentary Emmy award in the “New Approaches” category and was awarded a Webby “Honor” for an experimental video project on deep-sea marine life.
After three years at the Digital Studio, I was offered the unique opportunity to help launch a new film production and education nonprofit in the Arabian Gulf Emirate of Qatar. As Head of New Media and Content, and then as Executive Producer and Director of Film Production at the Doha Film Institute, I led the design and creation of new websites and apps, and built an international, multilingual content team producing articles, photography, and video series focused on film and creative culture in the Gulf region and around the world. In time this team expanded into a producer of television, commercials, student films and filmmaker grant programs, along with an extensive collection of video/oral histories and large format immersive film installations including for the new National Museum of Qatar, recently named one of Time Magazine’s “World’s Greatest Places”. During this period my work was recognized with Webby “Honors” for “Best Cultural Institution” website and “Best Website Visual Design/Function” and received a Webby content nomination for an educational video series on the craft of motion animation.
Since returning to the US in 2016, I’ve produced and written exhibition media projects for National Geographic and the US Department of State’s “Our Ocean” marine conservation summit, 360° video/virtual reality projects for Google and National Geographic including a documentary series about the mind and memory in wartime, and the first 3D/360°/VR ever filmed on the International Space Station. I also wrote and produced exhibition media for the Smithsonian National Museum of American History and a 4-hour documentary television series on Egyptian history. During this period my work has been recognized with two CINE Golden Eagle Awards, a 2019 Advanced Imaging Society Lumiere Award for “Best Educational VR”, two “Best Documentary” Awards at VR Fest, and three Webby Awards.
